Calgary Marlborough Community Association is working on a project that would improve the outdoor space located on the east side of the community building. And we need your help.
Currently, our patio is under-utilized and we would like to see it become a vibrant space that would attract community residents to socialize and host various events. The patio space is next to a soccer field which is an ideal spot for families to relax while watching a game.
This project will upgrade the broken chain link fence with a nicer and more inviting ornamental fence. Currently, there is no place to sit on the patio and we plan to add some permanent sitting space (picnic benches) and have additional chairs and tables that can be stored when not in use.
We will incorporate a community garden for those who would like to help the space flourish. A community garden will add more life and colour to the area.
We will also have a little library to add to this area as well as painted stencil games on the concrete for children’s games. Plans to have a coffee club called ‘Coffee Without Boundaries’ are also being proposed where Marlborough residents could meet their neighbours.
Help us paint a mural
Another important part of this project is the painting of the mural on the portion of the building wall facing the patio. This is a part of the project where we would like to get as many community members involved as possible. This is your chance to express your identity and tell us what’s important to you. We would like to hear your ideas on the painting of the mural and what you would like to see included in this art project.
Once we gather your suggestions we will be getting in touch with a local artist who will be able to merge all our ideas together and put the design on the wall. There will also be an opportunity to gain some hands-on experience in painting the mural once the work starts. Please send your mural ideas to this email address; patio@calgarymarlborough.com We have a patio revitalization committee of five people that are actively working on this project. We welcome anyone interested in this project.
