Bob Lee Scholarship
The Calgary Marlborough Community Association Bob Lee Scholarship Fund was established to encourage the pursuit of post-secondary education.
The scholarship provides a one-time financial award to a current Community resident who has been active in local organized sports programs and/or volunteer activities, and who is enrolled at an approved Post-Secondary Educational Institute.
Awards
The number of awards and dollar amounts (historically $500 per person) will be determined annually by the CMCA Board of Directors. Successful applicants will be determined by the Scholarship Committee.
Structure
The Scholarship Committee will consist of the Scholarship Director and up to two more Calgary Marlborough Community Association Board members or volunteers. The committee will be responsible for reviewing the applications and selecting those applicants that best satisfy the eligibility requirements. The committee will present their selection to the Board for final approval.
Scholarships will be payable to the recipient and the educational institution in which the applicant is enrolled. Special arrangements can be made at the director’s recommendation. The successful applicant will be invited to attend the Annual General Meeting in October.
Eligibility
◦The applicant (or immediate family) must be a current Calgary Marlborough resident, have a current Community membership and have resided in the community for at least three years.
◦The applicant must apply within four calendar years of graduation from high school.
◦The applicant must prove a history of participation in organized sports programs and/or demonstrate volunteer activities.
◦Preference will be given to those applicants who have participated in programs sponsored or run by the community.
◦The applicant must have demonstrated good sportsmanship and conduct on the teams played for.
◦The applicant must be enrolled in a full-time course load at a Post Secondary Institution, including a trade or apprenticeship program.
Selection Criteria
◦The applicant must complete the Scholarship application
◦Proof of enrolment at a Post Secondary Institution must be provided.
◦The applicant must submit a one-page biography (typewritten, minimum 500 words) that includes the following information: scholastic achievements, career intentions, hobbies, volunteer activities, community participation, and any other information the applicant wishes to share.
◦The applicant must include a one-page essay (typewritten, minimum 500 words) on the relevance or impact of community, organized sports programs, or other volunteer activities and programs on his/her personal development.
◦The applicant must include at least one reference letter from a teacher, coach, volunteer supervisor, employer, or CMCA Board Member.
Timeline
◦Applications must be received by June 30th.
◦Decisions will be made by August 31.
◦Payment will be made jointly to the winner and the educational institution in September (unless alternate arrangements have been agreed upon).
◦A formal presentation will be held at the October CMCA Annual General Meeting.
